Scaroni: “There’s no plan from Cardinale to sell the club in the medium term”

Paolo Scaroni gave an interview to La Repubblica in which he spoke about San Siro and the new stadium for Inter and Milan. The Milan president also revealed that the club is considering San Donato for another project. Here are his statements.

On the new stadium, Scaroni said:

“Finally we have closed the first part of the match, the most important one. We worked on it for years, maybe too many, I always did. And now we can say we will build a modern, efficient stadium that will be alive every day. As happens in the biggest cities in Europe, of course. But ours will be more beautiful.”

The next step:

“Now the second half begins for us, which will last two years. But the stadium project will be shown in 7-8 months. San Siro is old, but it has a key feature: you enjoy the match there. In the new stadium it will be even better, because spectators will be closer to the pitch and the design more vertical. Residents can relax, the stadium will start from below and although it will rise in height, the impact will be smaller. It will also be closed, so the noise outside will be reduced. For them, the new stadium will be an advantage. It will raise the value of the area.”

On property speculation and what will remain of San Siro:

“Property speculation? From Inter and Milan there will be no space for that. We will build a hotel, our headquarters and Inter’s, a museum for the clubs and for San Siro, a small shopping center of 15,000 square meters, restaurants and bars. All surrounded by green areas. It must become a place always worth visiting.”

Scaroni added:

"What will remain of the Meazza? What the heritage office asked us to preserve, to keep the memory alive. We are all attached to the current San Siro, but the past must never stop us from looking forward. England with Wembley is the example. The construction of the new stadium will not reduce spectator capacity."

On San Donato:

“San Donato a bluff? Not at all, we spent 40 million euros on the purchase of the land. We acted when the chance of a new stadium in Milan seemed gone. Yes, there were issues, mobility was a problem. But we were ready. So much so that we are working on an idea to keep that space available for sport. Because sport is the mission of RedBird and Gerry Cardinale. Sale of the club? There is no plan to sell from Cardinale, at least in the medium term."

Scaroni’s promise about the new stadium:

“I promise modernity and innovation. Milan is the city of doing, I, like everyone who arrived here from elsewhere and the many tourists who crowd it, am in love with it. To the city and the fans we will give the most beautiful stadium in Europe, and to residents a regenerated neighborhood.”
