Those at Milan News interviewed Marek Hamsik. The former Napoli midfielder spoke about his flirtation with Milan back in 2011, and more.
Marek, after 14 years, can you tell us how close you were to joining Milan in the summer of 2011?
“I was very close to moving to Milan. Coach Allegri wanted me both at Milan and at Juventus. But in the end, nothing happened.”
Any regrets? You could have played in what was perhaps the last great Milan before this one: the Milan of prime Ibrahimovic, Cassano, Robinho, Gattuso, Nesta, Boateng, Pato, and others, fighting for the Scudetto.
“I’m happy it didn’t happen. I had 12 wonderful years with Napoli. No regrets, even though Milan were truly strong at that time.”
Do you feel a bit Neapolitan?
“No, I am (laughs). It’s my second home and part of who I am. And I’m part of Napoli.”
Many consider Milan and Napoli among the 3-4 favorites for the Scudetto. Do you agree?
“For the first time in years, I see Napoli as the main favorite for the Scudetto.”
