Didier Deschamps, head coach of the French national team, also spoke at a press conference about the situation of Mike Maignan, whose contract with AC Milan is set to expire:
"In the past, I’ve had players sign contracts during competitions such as the World Cup. It doesn’t depend on me; it’s a matter of discussion with the clubs. Nowadays, the influence of these things is smaller; I think players handle it more calmly. That said, ideally, sorting out one’s personal situation before an important competition is always the best thing to do."

The situation with Mike Maignan:
After saving Paulo Dybala’s penalty, Mike Maignan has once again proven to be decisive. The French goalkeeper continues to be the focus of attention because of his contract situation, with AC Milan expected to make an attempt in the coming weeks to see if they can convince their captain to accept the renewal offer and remain with the Rossoneri, as relayed via Milan News.
At the moment, however, the chances of Maignan staying are quite low. Still, the club remains hopeful that the situation could change, anything could happen in the next few weeks, and perhaps the Frenchman could be persuaded by Massimiliano Allegri, who is expected to play a key role in these discussions.
Maignan remains Milan’s top priority, and the club will do everything possible to keep him. Should the player close the door on staying, Milan will begin searching for goalkeepers capable of replacing him, a process that has already started so the club won’t be caught unprepared. Currently, three names are on Igli Tare’s shortlist:
- Elia Caprile (Cagliari)
- Zion Suzuki (Parma)
- Noah Atubolu (Freiburg), who this season has conceded 15 goals in 13 appearances and recorded 5 clean sheets, three of which came in the Bundesliga.
