Interviewed by Il Tempo, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio gave an update on Milan’s signings, as the club is desperately searching for a striker to replace Santiago Gimenez.
Which team is the most active in the market these days?
"In my opinion, Milan and Roma, as both need a centre-forward. Milan because of the availability issues with Gimenez and Leao, and Roma because they are looking for a player with different characteristics from those already in the squad. Then there’s Fiorentina, given their dramatic position in the standings. Their idea is to change as many faces as possible. January overhauls are always very complicated, especially when you have to sell and then buy, but Fiorentina really wants to try to do a lot," as relayed via Milan News.
Will AC Milan and AS Roma compete for Joshua Zirkzee?
"There’s a timing issue that matters. Milan would have liked to wait for him, but I think there’s no margin to get him or be sure of being in the race before January 18–20. Milan wants to have the striker as soon as possible, and Fullkrug could arrive immediately. Then his physical condition will need to be assessed, because he hasn’t been in top form this year. Roma, on the other hand, already have Ferguson, Dybala, and Dovbyk (if there isn’t a swap with Beto) they would prefer to wait for Zirkzee. They see him as the right profile and are willing to wait, provided that in the coming days the guarantees come from United and the player, because otherwise you risk waiting for a player who doesn’t arrive. But the signals we have are positive.”
