At the start of the season, everything suggested that the Scudetto race would once again be a two-horse contest, as it was last year, between Napoli and Inter. The Partenopei and the Nerazzurri are indeed up near the top of the table, but Milan have inserted themselves between them and, for now, have no intention of stopping dreaming, also because the pressure and expectations in terms of the title are lower.

Are AC Milan the unexpected spoiler in the Scudetto race as Allegri downplays title talk?

Allegri’s team continue to focus on their own campaign and then, from March onwards, as the coach has repeated since the beginning of the season, the standings will be assessed and the remaining cards played for the most immediate objective.

For this reason, the Rossoneri are now playing the role of spoiler in the Scudetto battle. This is also the view of Corriere dello Sport, which this morning, writing about the Rossoneri, ran the headline: “The third wheel.” The subheading continues: "Allegri: Napoli and Inter are the favourites, Milan must take another small step forward.” It is the Rossoneri coach himself who is shifting the spotlight away from Milanello. The strapline reads: "Tonight in Cagliari, the second match in a crucial four-game stretch.” Allegri is also quoted: "The table is starting to take shape."
