Milan are firmly in the race for a Champions League place next season and, despite being five points off the top, have not entirely given up on the Scudetto dream. At the same time, though, planning has already begun at the club's headquarters for the 2026–27 campaign. With a likely return to Europe, the Rossoneri’s objective will be to expand the squad numerically, as well as to clearly improve its quality.

At least one reinforcement is expected in defence, and a name that is highly appreciated at Casa Milan is Mario Gila, a centre-back born in 2000 who is under contract with Lazio until 2027 and a long-time target of Rossoneri sporting director Igli Tare. This was reported this morning by Corriere della Sera, which explains that Lazio president Claudio Lotito has been contacted by Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani to discuss a potential move of the Spanish defender to the Rossoneri. The deal is planned for the summer. In truth, Max Allegri would not mind having him immediately, but the strained relationship between Sarri and the Lazio owner suggests there will be no further high-profile departures during this winter transfer window.

20 million euros fee...

Milan and Lazio are negotiating on the basis of a fee of around €20 million. It should be remembered that half of this amount would go to Real Madrid, who, in the summer of 2002, when they sold Gila to Lazio for €6 million, secured a 50 per cent sell-on clause. With his contract expiring in 2027 and no renewal in sight, Lazio will be almost "forced" to sell the Spanish centre-back next summer, otherwise they risk losing him for free a year later.
