Will Milan manage to sign a central defender in this transfer window? It has been a long-standing request from Massimiliano Allegri. After all, the Rossoneri have five defenders, including David Odogu, who has played only a handful of minutes across all competitions this season, for three spots. In practical terms, there is just one real alternative, Koni De Winter, to the three regular starters.

Allegri counts on him:
Speaking of the Belgian, his first goal in a Milan shirt arrived against Roma, at a time when Koni De Winter is enjoying an important spell of form and confidence. After the disastrous Supercoppa night in Arabia against Napoli, De Winter has put almost nothing wrong. One could also mention the poor home draw against Sassuolo, when the Belgian was not entirely convincing after coming on for the injured Gabbia. From that moment on, De Winter turned a corner, gaining more confidence and courage. And Allegri can now rely on him fully.

For next season, however, a new signing at the back will be necessary. Milan are therefore trying to move ahead of the competition. The Rossoneri are pressing for Mario Gila, the Lazio defender born in 2000. Talks are ongoing between Milan CEO Furlani and Lazio president Lotito, with a deal worth around €20 million expected to take shape in the summer.
