Massimiliano Allegri, when he talks about players arriving from other leagues, always repeats that time and patience are needed because Serie A is difficult for those coming from abroad and almost everyone needs a period to adapt. This certainly applies to Christopher Nkunku, who had quite a few difficulties in his first months but has now found his rhythm and started scoring regularly.
Corriere dello Sport, on newsstands this morning, reports a very interesting statistic about the Frenchman: the former Chelsea player, who arrived at Milanello during last summer’s transfer window from Chelsea for €40 million, has scored five goals in the last six league matches he has played in, the same number he managed in the previous 48 games combined between Serie A and the Premier League. At the end of 2025, Nkunku finally broke his league drought with a brace against Hellas Verona, followed by goals against Fiorentina, Como, and Bologna.
Yet January was not easy for him at all, as he was often at the center of transfer rumors. The final days of the winter transfer window were especially hectic: it was no secret that Milan wanted to sign Jean-Philippe Mateta, and for this reason they tried to move Nkunku on, with Fenerbahçe, managed by his former RB Leipzig coach Domenico Tedesco, particularly interested. The deal for the Crystal Palace striker ultimately collapsed due to well-known knee problems, but it must also be said that Christopher always opposed a transfer, because things are now improving for him at Milan and he wants to keep proving himself in Max Allegri’s team. His wish to stay was granted; now it’s up to him to show Milan they were right to keep faith in him.
