The criticism surrounding AC Milan’s transfer signings has eased dramatically in recent weeks. After months of doubts and negative comments, the new players brought in by the club are finally making a decisive impact on the pitch, contributing significantly to the attacking phase of Massimiliano Allegri’s team.
Goals and performances: from Nkunku to Füllkrug, almost everyone is scoring
In January, the contribution of the attackers (and not only them) who arrived in the summer and during the winter transfer window was crucial in keeping Milan near the top of the Serie A standings. Eight of the Rossoneri’s last nine goals were in fact scored by players who, until last year, were playing elsewhere and were brought to Milan by sporting director Igli Tare and CEO Giorgio Furlani.
Christopher Nkunku, among others, best represents this change of pace. After a rather difficult start, with no goals in his first eleven league matches, the Frenchman broke his drought in December and has since found consistency, scoring five goals in his last six appearances.
Reinforcements paying off and future prospects.
Alongside Nkunku, Adrien Rabiot has also found the net three times (against Como and Bologna), while Niclas Füllkrug and Koni De Winter have each recently scored as well, against Lecce and Roma respectively, showing how even the less celebrated signings are managing to make a positive impact this season.
The attacking output of these new arrivals has softened the criticism from the start of the season and partially restored confidence in the club’s transfer strategy, which at this rate could ultimately prove to have been the right one.
