Former coach Fabio Capello gave an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport to discuss the Serie A title race between Milan, Inter, and Napoli. Here are his statements:
Capello on what we saw last matchday:
"Napoli is back in great form and has regained several players who will give them an extra boost from now on."
On what Inter is missing to close the gap
"They lack aggression, and the play is very slow: they can create dangerous situations because they have quality, but the rhythm isn’t there, neither the ball speed nor the circulation they showed before. The midfield doesn’t have the execution speed needed to serve the players up front."
On Milan, who could have dropped reduced the gap with Inter to 5 points:
"Milan missed Rabiot, who gives them strength and bursts, carries the ball, and does something different. Milan was very flat and slow, which is why it ended 1-0."
On the comeback, Capello commented:
"I don’t think Inter can lose the championship. A comeback seemed possible if the leader slowed down, but if both slow down… Milan, losing on the last matchday, actually fell further behind."
On Napoli:
"This overall slowdown highlights their qualities, and if you also have more energy, you’re at an advantage. A full-strength Napoli was a team that scored more and was therefore harder to stop: that makes the difference. Now the league is slowing down—less speed and aggressiveness—so the squad’s quality comes to the fore. Will Conte push for the scudetto? Without a doubt: the others are ahead, but Napoli has three wins in a row. Victory breeds victory. The team runs without the pressure of having to repeat themselves: let’s see what happens if the two ahead continue at a slow pace."
