Today marked AC Milan’s second day of training ahead of their match against Napoli. The Rossoneri, still not at full strength, regrouped yesterday for the first time this week and trained again today at Milanello, with the squad gradually returning to its usual size. However, Massimiliano Allegri will only have the full group available starting tomorrow. In the meantime, the coach and his staff are encouraged by several positive signs.
Back with the group
The best news of all is undoubtedly that Adrien Rabiot has returned to Milanello and trained with the squad. As expected in recent days, the knee injury the midfielder suffered during training with France turned out to be just a minor bruise. Upon rejoining the team today, the medical staff assessed the former Marseille and Juventus player’s condition positively and cleared him to train with the group. Allegri can therefore breathe a sigh of relief, as he should have no issue fielding his trusted player on Monday night in the big match against Napoli. Also back today were Davide Bartesaghi, coming off an international break in which he recorded three assists in two matches, and Zachary Athekame, the only Rossoneri player to have played the full 180 minutes. The final returns are expected tomorrow: Luka Modrić, Christian Pulisic, Pervis Estupiñán, and the Belgian duo Saelemaekers and De Winter.
Leao? Too early
There was also a positive sign regarding Rafael Leao. As known, the Portuguese forward stayed in Portugal during the break to undergo treatment after consulting a specialist abroad about a persistent groin issue that has troubled him throughout the season. Yesterday, he trained individually; today, however, there was a step forward that offers a small glimmer of hope. The Rossoneri number 10 returned to the pitch, albeit for a personalised training session. The fact that he is back on the grass is encouraging, though it is still too early to say whether he will recover in time to be called up for the Napoli match. For now, however, he is on the right path. Tomorrow will already be a decisive day. Matteo Gabbia, on the other hand, continues to train separately and will not be available for the match at the Maradona, as he works tirelessly to return to action as soon as possible.
