When, just under a year ago, Massimiliano Allegri arrived in Milan to sign his contract with AC Milan, returning to the Rossoneri club eleven years after his first spell there, the primary objective was to bring the team back into the UEFA Champions League and restore it to greatness.
And although it was expected that hitting that target would not be easy, given the fierce competition for third and fourth place in Italy, perhaps no one anticipated that the Italy national football team would come between the Rossoneri club and Max.

What is Allegri's future like?
This final month of the season, with Milan fully in the race for the Champions League after it had seemed to have qualification all but secured, will be heavily influenced by what the coach decides regarding his future in relation to the role of head coach of Italy. It is no coincidence that 'Quotidiano Sportivo' wrote and headlined this morning: "Allegri, a heart divided in two. Milan and the promise of the Champions League, but the future as national team coach is gaining ground again." The subheading also explores the issue further: "Max is the preferred choice of former No.1 of Italian National Olympic Committee Giovanni Malagò for the Azzurri bench. The aim remains to take the Diavolo into the top four."
