Milan’s future will depend heavily on these final six league matches: the Rossoneri are fully in the race to secure a Champions League place, which could prove decisive for what lies ahead for the club this summer. On this matter, however, 'La Gazzetta dello Sport' reported this morning that the club’s position regarding Massimiliano Allegri is clear: the intention is to continue the project with the coach from Livorno, which began less than a year ago. What now appears necessary, though, is to place Max even more at the centre of decision-making.
Management
The first step in moving closer to Allegri, above all to avoid the “threat” of the national team bench, will be to grant him greater decision-making power. In a club where there is considerable complexity in terms of who makes decisions, with multiple and differing influences at play, it is essential that the team and staff are properly represented by the coach. It is crucial that his opinion is heard and taken into account by those at the top. Failing to do so would be a major own goal, especially considering how much the group already follows him and is devoted to him after less than a year of working together. Milan want to continue with Max and are not concerned that Malagò might lure him away: the strength at Casa Milan also lies in his contract, which runs until 2027 but can be automatically extended by a year if Champions League qualification is achieved, and could even be prolonged until 2029.
Three signings
Within this context of increasing his decision-making authority, or at least giving greater weight to his views, listening carefully to Allegri’s transfer market indications is key. It cannot be said that Max has been fully backed this season as he might have deserved: the only truly requested player to arrive at Milanello was Adrien Rabiot, and even that came at the last moment and under particular circumstances. Especially if Champions League qualification is secured, it will be essential to listen to the coach and satisfy his requests as much as possible. At least three significant additions of real quality are needed to strengthen and deepen the squad. These should be signings capable of reducing the gap between the starting line-up and the substitutes. In general, the ideal scenario would be to complete one major signing for each department of the team.
