AC Milan have begun planning and shaping the future of their squad. The directive from manager Massimiliano Allegri has been, and remains, clear: strengthen every department, starting from defence, moving through midfield, and reaching the attack, where the signing of a new number 9 is expected.
But before finalising specific strategies for selecting the main striker to lead the Rossoneri’s attack, developments have already emerged from the club’s headquarters. An agreement for the first addition to the 2026/2027 squad is now very close (with Andrej Kostić, at least initially, expected to join Milan Futuro under Massimo Oddo).
Sporting director Igli Tare has been working for several months on a deal for Mario Gila from SS Lazio, and now a real breakthrough has occurred in negotiations. According to sources from Calciomercato.com, a full agreement for the defender is very close.
Only the formal steps remain, but the deal is progressing smoothly.
In essence, Gila is set to become a new Milan defender, strengthening a defensive unit that currently includes Pavlovic, Gabbia, Tomori, De Winter and Odogu (the latter likely to leave on loan next season).
Figures and details
Milan are pushing ahead with the move for Mario Gila and are expected to reach their target, barring any last-minute changes or competing offers from other clubs. As things stand, the Spanish centre-back has given his word to Milan, and there is already a basic agreement in place regarding contract terms, salary, and duration.
Meetings have been scheduled in the coming weeks to align with Lazio’s demands, but the deal should be around €25 million. It is seen as a strong move by the Rossoneri, who are preparing to add a versatile centre-back, capable of playing in both a back three and a back four.
Milan won’t stop here
Milan have no intention of stopping with Gila’s arrival. The club’s plan is to sign another centre-back, and attention should be paid to their strong relationship with the player’s agent and with Real Madrid CF regarding a possible move for Víctor Valdepeñas.
A left-back who can also play as a centre-back, Valdepeñas is being considered as part of a potential deal with Real Madrid that could include a buy-back clause in favour of the Spanish club. It is an option currently under careful evaluation by Milan.
