It would be too obvious to write a lyrical piece about how beautiful PSG–Bayern Munich was. Let’s say it again: today’s Italian football has nothing to do with European football. It’s sadly true, and it has become a long-standing belief among fans of all clubs across Italy. But it’s not as if every week you’re supposed to watch one shot on target in 90 minutes. Come on.
Always with the bitterness of someone who has seen something too beautiful and difficult to replicate, one looks back. And Milan supporters are forced to look FAR too far back. The last enjoyable, exciting and entertaining match from the Rossoneri is the 3–2 home win against Torino on 21 March 2026. No, this isn’t nostalgia speaking: that Milan side was still fighting for faint Scudetto hopes, and you could see it in the way the players moved and expressed themselves on the pitch.
Over the last five matches, Massimiliano Allegri’s team has become the exact opposite of the explosive side seen in the first half of the season. Slow, clumsy, and struggling even when the result is within reach. And understandably, some fans are starting to feel fed up, with the classic urge to end the season early and think about the next one. Fair enough, but objectives still have to be achieved first.
In recent matches involving the Milan side, Maignan’s goal has mostly been threatened by teams already safe (with holidays booked) or virtually relegated. They suffer at the back, and do nothing up front: one goal in 450 minutes is astonishing. It’s fine to say: “At the end of the season it’s not about performance, but about results.” That makes sense. But if the results since the return from the depressing international break are two defeats, a 1–0 win against bottom place, and a 0–0 draw…
You don't mess around with Sassuolo:
Now they go to the Mapei Stadium, a ground full of good memories for Milan. Matches between Sassuolo and Milan have often been entertaining: the hope is that on Sunday there will be something extra again. Credit must go to the Emilia side, because despite a comfort in the table that might tempt other teams to relax, they always give their maximum (as shown in their fine win over Como). For the third-placed team, it will not be easy given the opponents’ pace. Perhaps that is the extra motivation: the kind that leads to more open, more enjoyable matches.
