After coming close to him in 2020, when he was on the verge of taking over the Rossoneri bench before the club decided to keep Stefano Pioli, today Ralf Rangnick is once again close to Milan. On Tuesday, Gerry Cardinale, the Rossoneri owner, and Zlatan Ibrahimović flew to Vienna to speak with him, while he is currently preparing for the World Cup with his Austria side. The Rossoneri’s idea is to entrust him with an important role within Milan’s organisational structure. The German is not the only candidate, but the fact that those leading the Rossoneri revolution together with Massimo Calvelli wanted to meet him in person means that the club on Via Aldo Rossi is seriously interested in him.
What are Rangnick's conditions to become AC Milan's new technical director?
This was reported this morning by 'La Gazzetta dello Sport', which explains that during the face-to-face meeting, which left both parties with positive feelings, Rangnick outlined to Milan his conditions for leaving the Austrian national team after the World Cup and becoming the head of the club’s technical area: first of all, he wants to choose the new coach; then he wants to bring along his own staff, especially those in the scouting department; and he wants to reorganise the youth system and talent scouting according to his philosophy. The impact therefore would not be a soft one, which is why Cardinale is carefully reflecting with Ibra and Calvelli on what response to give the German.
Rangnick interested in the Milan project
While waiting to learn Milan’s decision, yesterday Rangnick, who is interested in this Rossoneri project, which would return him to a top club after his unsuccessful spell as Manchester United manager, responded as follows to a question about Milan’s interest in him during an event organised by his foundation:
“Probably everyone noticed that something extraordinary happened at Milan last weekend. The only point of contact for me regarding contractual matters is, and remains, the Austrian federation.”
The ex Manchester United boss neither confirms the rumours nor denies them. His contract with the Austrian football federation expires at the end of the World Cup, and the temptation of Milan is rather strong. What will his future be?
