Milan, Glasner and Mateta: a possible return of the transfer idea?

AC Milan supporters will clearly remember the final days and hours of the winter transfer window. Milan had secured French striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, an objective for the summer, reaching an agreement with Crystal Palace to bring him to Allegri immediately.

When everything seemed done and the player was about to fly to Milan, the deal collapsed because the Milan club were not convinced about the condition of the player’s knee. Today, Mateta may come back into focus: the management will be new and his coach Oliver Glasner is the leading name for the Milan bench.

Will Glasner bring Mateta to AC Milan?

At present, there is one name above all others as the leading candidate to become the new Milan coach. It is Austrian manager Oliver Glasner, coming off two magical years and a half in charge of Crystal Palace, whom he led to their first three trophies in history, including their first European title just a few days ago. And if he were indeed called by Cardinale and Ibra, Glasner himself could be the key to bringing Jean-Philippe Mateta. This idea was put forward by Tuttosport this morning: with the coach who has helped him perform at his best in his career, and a management necessarily different from the one that blocked his transfer in winter, this route does not seem entirely unfeasible.

Mateta-Milan: deadline and need for goals:

The failure to bring Jean-Philippe Mateta to Milan in January may have been a turning point in the season for the Rossoneri. The Frenchman ultimately did not undergo knee surgery: he scored 6 goals (compared to just one scored by Fullkrug), including the most important one in the Conference League final; he was called up by Deschamps for the World Cup. In short, a success across the board. It goes without saying that Milan need goals; this is one of the few certainties at the moment. It has been the main cause of the Rossoneri’s failure this year, and Mateta is someone who generally knows how to score. The price could also be lower than the 35 million euros in winter: the Frenchman’s contract runs until 2027, and the cost will certainly be lower. It could be an opportunity for Milan from every point of view.
