In a video published on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that one of the names Milan are particularly keen on to strengthen their defence is Sporting Lisbon's Gonçalo Inácio:
"The club is working to bring in a new centre-back for Ruben Amorim. Regarding Antonio Silva, I can say that there is no indication of either an agreement with the player or negotiations with Benfica, who have made it clear that they have had no contact whatsoever with Milan. The Portuguese club is very attentive in the transfer market and has an excellent relationship with the defender's agent, Jorge Mendes. So, if Milan had started negotiations for Antonio Silva, even only on the player's side, Benfica would know about it with complete certainty. Instead, they have received no information at all, and there have also been no direct contacts from the player's side. Therefore, as things stand today, there are no ongoing negotiations between Milan and Benfica for Antonio Silva."
"From what I've been told, Milan and Amorim have at least three centre-backs on their shortlist. The Rossoneri have begun narrowing down their options, and one name to keep a close eye on is Gonçalo Inácio. He is not the only player Milan are considering, but he is one of the three or four names the club are evaluating very carefully to strengthen the defence. Amorim knows him very well, so we'll see what happens."
