The AC Milan club has, somewhat surprisingly, taken advantage of Napoli's lack of movement and acted decisively to pursue Mario Gila. An agreement with the Spanish defender has already been reached, with only negotiations with Claudio Lotito still to be finalised.
The Rossoneri are nevertheless pushing hard to get the deal over the line. Speaking in a video on Fabrizio Romano's YouTube channel, Matteo Moretto revealed that Massimiliano Allegri, Napoli's new head coach, is far from pleased with the situation.
Gila heading to Milan, Allegri frustrated
"I wanted to share a behind-the-scenes detail: Mario Gila was one of Massimiliano Allegri's absolute top priorities for the defence. Napoli had always believed that if they were going to sign a centre-back, it had to be Mario Gila. The fact that Gila is now much closer to joining Milan has undoubtedly disrupted Allegri's plans. He will now discuss the situation again with Napoli. If they definitively miss out on the defender, they'll move on to other targets. Allegri is understandably disappointed that this target is slipping away. That said, the transfer market changes very quickly, and clubs usually have a Plan B ready. But as things stand, after Gila had previously come close to Napoli, it is Milan who are now pushing very strongly to complete the deal."
