After strengthening the defence with Mario Gila and the attack with Gonçalo Ramos, for whom €100 million has already been invested, AC Milan are now working to satisfy another request from Ruben Amorim, who has asked for a new attacking midfielder. In recent weeks, several names have been linked with the Rossoneri, but over the past few hours the name being mentioned most insistently at the club's headquarters on Via Aldo Rossi has been Nicolò Zaniolo.
Zaniolo's agent meets with the AC Milan club
This morning, Tuttosport reports that Milan's management have already held contacts and meetings with Zaniolo's agent, Claudio Vigorelli. It is no secret that the former Roma player is currently locked in a contract dispute with Udinese over a new deal, and at present there appears to be little chance of reaching an agreement. Relations between the two parties have become even more strained following Zaniolo's decision not to report for Udinese's pre-season training. He submitted a medical certificate to justify his absence.
At this stage, the forward's departure appears to be the most likely outcome, with the player reportedly showing a clear preference for a move to Milan. His agent, Vigorelli, was at the Rossoneri headquarters on Tuesday evening, while yesterday he held another meeting with Udinese. It should also be remembered that on 8 July, Udinese's management visited Casa Milan, and Zaniolo's name was almost certainly among those discussed during the meeting. The player is valued at between €15 million and €20 million.
No just Zaniolo - Foden is also an option for AC Milan in the market
Naturally, the former Roma player's name is not the only one being considered at Via Aldo Rossi. Alongside youngsters Karetsas and Alajbegovic, although Milan face strong competition, particularly from Borussia Dortmund for the Greek talent and Atalanta for the Bosnian, a new idea has emerged in recent hours: Phil Foden.
The England international, born in 2000, has a contract with Manchester City that expires in one year's time. Foden would bring not only exceptional quality but also strong character and a winning mentality. It remains to be seen whether this intriguing possibility will develop into something more concrete over the coming weeks. For the time being, however, Milan continue to maintain contact with Zaniolo's agent.
