Ruben Amorim’s Milan transfer window, aside from the signing of promising youngster Sankhoun Diawara, has been at a standstill since the arrival of Mario Gila on July 10.
The situation regarding departures
The main issue at the Rossoneri is that the squad is overcrowded. Between new signings, confirmed players and those returning from loan spells, every area of the pitch has more options than necessary. Therefore, in order to make further additions without creating problems, selling players has become essential.
However, as has been the case for several summers, Milan are struggling massively to offload their unwanted players. There has been talk of requests from the Portuguese coach, who wanted to evaluate everyone before making decisions, but even players such as Bondo, who has remained alone at Milanello, have yet to leave.
This is a problem that must be resolved quickly because the current squad is still missing at least 3-4 additions (a left and/or right-sided winger, another defender and a left-footed attacking midfielder) to make it fully suited to the coach’s plans.
Amorim’s comments
The manager also addressed the situation regarding departures during his press conference ahead of the friendly against Chelsea, openly acknowledging the issue for the first time. At the end of the pre-season tour, decisions will have to be made and some players will need to leave. He said:
“Next week, I will have to make some decisions. As you can see, the group is very large, and we have reached the point where I need to gather as much information as possible to make the right choices. Nowadays in football, everyone wants everything immediately, but doing things properly takes time. In football, there is no time, but decisions still have to be made. My choice is to do the right things at the right moment.”
Will it be too late to complete everything?
The question many are now asking is whether there will be enough time to sell players and bring in the reinforcements needed. At the moment, it seems unlikely that everything will be completed before the Serie A opener against Torino on August 23, but a significant part of the work will need to be done before then, as relayed via Milan Press.
The final adjustments can still be made in the closing days of the transfer window, when new opportunities emerge, but there is no time to waste if Milan want to avoid ending up with a half-completed overhaul.
