Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been considered one of the players expected to leave Milan since the beginning of the transfer window. However, no concrete or attractive offers have arrived at the club’s headquarters on Via Aldo Rossi so far, and the midfielder has completed the entire pre-season under Ruben Amorim.
Technical and physical doubts over Loftus-Cheek
As Tuttosport highlights today, there are several doubts surrounding the English midfielder for a number of reasons. First and foremost, there are concerns over his consistency and whether he can maintain the physical condition required to guarantee significant playing time throughout the season. Since joining Milan, he has made 105 appearances, scoring 13 goals and providing four assists.
Another issue concerns his contract. The former Chelsea player’s current deal expires in June 2027 and, as is the case with Fikayo Tomori, there are currently no talks over a contract extension.
How Amorim has used him so far
So far, Amorim has deployed Loftus-Cheek as the right-sided attacking midfielder in his 3-4-2-1 formation, although the results have not been particularly impressive. Against Inter, he provided two good balls for Yunus Musah, who hit the post, and Cissé, who fired wide, but he does not fit the profile of player the Portuguese coach is looking for in that position.
Amorim wants a technical player who is comfortable operating between the lines and in tight spaces, capable of linking up with his teammates and, ideally, left-footed so that he can play on the opposite flank.
