Gonçalo Ramos, Milan’s new striker and the most expensive signing in the club’s history, gave an interview to Milan TV. Here are all of his statements:
Why did you choose Milan?
“When I found out there was a possibility of coming here, I had no doubts: it was the right choice. I don’t think you can only realise that a decision was right after you have made it. You cannot make a choice hoping that you will be able to adapt. For me, it was clear from the very first moment: I wanted to be here and be part of this project.”
How did coach Amorim convince you?
“I share the same footballing ideas as our coach. It is great to feel his confidence and to know that he wants me as part of his project. That gave me even more motivation to be here and help the team. In my opinion, that is one of the most important factors.”
Gonçalo Ramos also had this to say about AC Milan:
“This is one of the biggest clubs in the world, and it is even more special for me because it was my father’s favourite team. That is why it is so special.”
On his new teammates:
“I have found a fantastic group. I am really happy to be able to work with them. These first few weeks have been positive, and I cannot wait for the league to begin.”
Mentality or talent?
“Mentality is more important than talent because you can have a lot of talent, but if you do not have the right mentality, you will never play for the best teams in the world. However, if you have the right mentality combined with some talent, you have a better chance of reaching those levels. I have arrived at Milan, one of the biggest clubs in the world. There will certainly be pressure. Without a strong mentality, you can easily become discouraged, but I will work on this aspect to be ready for every situation. If I am mentally strong, everything will be fine. I have confidence in myself and in my mentality. In the end, it is important to prepare yourself and think this way.”
On his football journey:
“I was 12 when I decided to move from the Algarve to Lisbon to develop in Benfica’s academy. It was a difficult decision because I left everything behind and moved away from my family to pursue a dream, working hard and respecting everyone in my new environment. That way, whether you do well or badly, nobody can reproach you for anything because you have done your job. I think that after a few years, you start to realise that you have the possibility of achieving that dream. You have to give everything to pursue your dreams and follow your path.
“My dream was to play for Benfica’s first team and also for the national team. I did that, then I moved to Paris Saint-Germain, where I won the Champions League. I played for one of the strongest teams in the world. Then I arrived here, at another hugely important club on the global stage. So far, it has been a wonderful journey. It is difficult to find the right words. I have always tried to enjoy myself and give everything on the pitch because everything really does go by so quickly. In a few years, I will fully realise what I am doing now.”
Ramos, what type of striker are you?
“I am a striker who relies on his instinct. I try to make the right decisions and read the game well. It is demanding, but sometimes it is purely instinctive: being in the right place at the right time. I hope everyone will be able to see that on the pitch.”
What are your objectives?
“My objective is to win as many trophies as possible, and I also hope to score a lot of goals.”
A message for the Rossoneri fans?
“Hello, Rossoneri fans. I am very happy to be here. I cannot wait to show you my talent and feel your support. Thank you very much.”
