Fabio Capello, the former Rossoneri coach, commented as follows in the pages of 'La Gazzetta dello Sport' on Milan’s 2-1 away victory over Torino in their opening Serie A match:
"Turning to Milan, you could already see some signs of Amorim, starting with a very intense first half, also thanks to the referee, who allowed play to flow in line with the new trend (unlike the referee in Frosinone-Juventus, who blew his whistle for every contact...). The Rossoneri already showed a desire to implement what their coach is asking of them: a clear tactical plan, making it a proper competitive match from the very beginning. On that note, Chukwueze certainly deserves a mention, as he in particular seemed to me like a completely different player compared to two years ago."
"In general, you have to consider that Milan initially played without their stars, so this was not a complete version of the Diavolo, given that Pulisic still needs to regain his fitness, we have to wait for him, while Rabiot and Modric were on the bench. As soon as these ‘stars’ came on, Milan’s game changed and the Rossoneri took the lead."
"I have to say that Torino had four goalscoring opportunities in the final 15 minutes. Who knows what would have happened if they had scored earlier... This is a warning sign defensively: you cannot switch off, you cannot relax. Milan scored two goals in the blink of an eye, and at that moment Torino realised it was time to wake up. They showed they could offer more by attacking, created chances and played better, and they put Amorim’s first Milan side under pressure."
