Regardless of the judgement one chooses to make on AC Milan’s transfer window, it is an objective fact that the Rossoneri management, led by an unprecedented Gerry Cardinale taking personal charge of operations, has completely changed its modus operandi when it comes to negotiations compared with recent seasons. The signings of Ramos, Gila and Moreira are proof of this: three players the club considers ready and high-quality, and who were therefore signed for significant sums.
There are no longer any attempts to strike bargain deals or negotiate prices down. The only objective is to sign strong players. This is Cardinale’s philosophy, and it will continue to be pursued in the future, starting with the defender Milan failed to sign this summer but will try to bring in again in January.
Milan came close to Gonçalo Inacio in the final hours of the transfer market:
This morning, 'La Gazzetta dello Sport' revealed that Milan came very close to signing Gonçalo Inacio during the final 48 hours of the transfer window. Since Ruben Amorim’s arrival at the club, the Sporting CP centre-back has been identified as one of the most credible targets for Milan’s defence, having developed into a top-level player under the Rossoneri coach at Sporting.
According to the Italian newspaper mentioned above, in the final hours Milan made a €40 million offer which Sporting accepted, with the Portuguese club only asking to first find a suitable replacement. That condition was not met, and the deal therefore fell through. Or, perhaps more accurately, it has simply been put on the back burner.
Despite the reintegration of Fikayo Tomori, Cardinale’s idea is to go back into the market for a defender in January, starting with Inacio, who had been the club’s target in the final hours of the summer window, as relayed via Milan News.
