He has scored two important goals, both away from home, while showing a composure and confidence on the ball that would be the envy of almost anyone. He perhaps struggled to make his mark against Venezia at San Siro, but against Juventus, his personality and character were there for all to see.
It may be a strong statement, but one that needs to be made: at this moment, a player like Cisse is fundamental to Milan’s attacking balance.
Against almost all expectations, Samuel Chukwueze is enjoying a second chance at Milan. Following a loan spell in the Premier League with Fulham that was far from spectacular, the Nigerian winger returned to Milanello.
His impact under new head coach Ruben Amorim was positive from the very beginning. The Portuguese coach immediately showed faith in Chukwueze and gave him opportunities, making him feel important to his new project.
The results so far speak for themselves. With Chukwueze on the pitch, Milan have a player capable of combining quality and pace with the defensive demands of Amorim’s system, an aspect the team are still not entirely accustomed to.
The former Villarreal winger is certainly not a defensive-minded player. However, his effort and work rate have been impressive so far. And that is where the magic of Chukwueze against Juventus came from: he came off the bench with confidence, provided the assist for Cisse and produced an excellent finish to the game.
Rather than simply being an impact substitute, this version of Chukwueze is shaping up to become another reliable option in Amorim’s Milan.
