The Italian newspaper 'Il Quotidiano Sportivo' carries the headline this morning:
"Amorim plans for a European Milan without Modric."
On Wednesday evening at San Siro, the Rossoneri will make their season debut in the Europa League against Benfica, a match in which Luka Modric is not expected to start. The Croatian star is coming off a poor performance against Lazio, so much so that he was substituted at half-time.
After the match, Amorim explained to DAZN regarding Modric:
"We need to be really good on the ball to make Luka feel comfortable during the game. If we turn the match into constant end-to-end action and frantic running, that is not the type of game for Luka. That is why we changed our approach in the second half by bringing on Musah: we realised we needed a little more pace in the middle of the pitch. I also think Luka was dropping too deep, close to the centre-backs, which meant we had four players just to start the build-up and fewer players between the lines. We can play with Luka, and we have shown that in the last few games, but to do so we need to turn the match into one of possession and control. If we turn it into a game based on running, it becomes impossible for him."
