Ruben Amorim was interviewed by Sky Sport before Milan’s Europa League match against Benfica. These were his words:
On Luka Modric being talked about a lot and starting on the bench today, and whether he spoke to him:
“Against Lazio, it was simply a game that the team did not play well, not just Luka. I have to rotate, especially with a 41-year-old player. But he can play. I have to rotate the players, but we definitely want to win every game. In my experience, it is impossible to always be fresh when you have three games in a week. We are trying to get all the players into their best form, and that is why we make these choices.”
On whether he has found a similar problem to the one he faced in Manchester, with a huge club trying to return to the top, and seemingly not having the right players who perfectly fit his systems, Amorim said:
“I think you are partly right. At United and Milan, I have found two great clubs and a lot of pressure, where people think I can solve everything in a short time. This team is different, it is used to playing with three defenders, and the defenders are fast. I do not have the perfect characteristics because it is impossible to arrive at a new club and have everything ready straight away. I know it will take time, and I also know that the pressure is so high that you do not have time. But I prefer doing this kind of job because it means a lot to me: if I have to fail, I would rather fail big. I want to help this club. I do not know if I will have the necessary time, but the players listen to me a lot in training, and that gives me hope that we can find solutions," as relayed via Milan News.
