With the social media hashtag '#bringamorimback' gaining traction, Manchester United fans are already looking back fondly on their former manager, now in charge of AC Milan. And perhaps the Red Devils’ hierarchy is also having some regrets, given the atmosphere around the club, results, potential and... finances.
In fact, Looking at the English club’s accounts for the past financial year, it emerges that Manchester United had to spend €9.5 million on the dismissal of Amorim and his staff. The original compensation had been set at €19.4 million, but the Portuguese coach’s contract included a clause providing for a reduction in the amount if he reached an agreement with a new club, as pointed out via Corriere dello Sport.
Milan therefore helped to ease the financial burden on the English side by taking Amorim on last June.
As for that experience, those at Milan will hope it proved highly formative. Amorim is already showing signs of this on the pitch: "What I have noticed in the last few games – and something I had already experienced in the same way at Manchester United, which is why I cannot make the same mistake again – is that sometimes we do not have the ideal characteristics to play in a certain way. If we do not have them, we have to adapt to some extent."
