The international break could see Ruben Amorim welcome back an Ardon Jashari with more minutes under his belt. The Milan midfielder has been getting the playing time with Switzerland that he was lacking during the opening weeks of the season at Milan.
Jashari has accumulated 250 minutes for the Swiss national team during this international window, starting in their latest match against Slovenia and playing the full 90 minutes. That is a significant amount of playing time for a player who particularly needed consistency after Amorim had used him more cautiously at the start of the season.
Only Maignan has played more than Jashari
The figures become even more significant when looking at Milan's other outfield players called up by their respective national teams: no Rossoneri player has featured more than Jashari during this international break. Only Mike Maignan, with 270 minutes, has spent more time on the pitch, although he is, of course, a goalkeeper.
This could also prove useful for Amorim. Following the break, Milan will enter the busiest phase of their season so far, with fixtures coming thick and fast in Serie A and the Europa League, making squad rotation increasingly important, as relayed via Milan Press.
Jashari will therefore return to Milanello with 250 minutes of international football under his belt and his match fitness inevitably improved. It will then be up to Amorim to decide how much this will influence the pecking order in Milan's midfield.
Competition for places remains fierce, but the international break has given the Swiss midfielder exactly what he needed most at this stage: regular playing time.
