Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus spoke at a press conference yesterday evening after the victory over Norway and had this to say about Gonçalo Ramos, who scored three goals in four matches during this international break:
"Gonçalo Ramos, like all strikers, lives for goals. And that is what he has done in his last four matches. Not only has he scored, but he has also provided assists, such as the one for Cancelo's goal in Denmark. Gonçalo Ramos is a player I coached when he began his professional career at Benfica. Today, he is a much better player, there is no comparison. His performance was what I expected. He has played in the vast majority of the matches, he is improving, and he will help Milan and my colleague Ruben Amorim a lot. He is developing and will continue to develop," his words reported by 'A Bola'.
Regarding the matches Portugal played during this international break, Jesus explained:
"We approached the matches as if they were training sessions. Since we did not have time to train between games, I used the four matches to work on what the team could and had to do in terms of processes and playing ideas. As we did not have much time for practical training, and practice is the criterion of truth, I had to turn to theory."
Jorge Jesus added:
"I held several indoor training sessions with the team, trying to correct mistakes and talk to the players about the defensive idea we should adopt. We improved our positional attack in the match against Denmark. In my opinion, it is the most difficult of the five phases of football. We will improve when we have more time to train because this team has a lot of potential and a lot of talent. Only a team with a lot of talent can create a move like... Nuno Mendes' pass to Cancelo, from full-back to full-back".
