In its morning print edition, the Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport ran the following headline after the Rossoneri's 1-1 draw against Sassuolo away from home, at the Mapei stadium:
“Amorim: Milan, not like this”
The paper explains that the Portuguese head coach Ruben Amorim did not hide his disappointment during his post-match interview last night after his team took the lead through Rabiot but were pegged back by Sassuolo, dropping two points that would have been valuable in the league table.
Amorim expressed his frustration as follows:
“When we don’t win, we are never satisfied. We deserved to take the lead, but after scoring, it is clear that we should have managed the game better, kept more possession and slowed down the opposition’s response. We cannot afford to concede goals from corners.
“It is clear that we cannot be satisfied when we throw away two points like this. We have to keep doing what we were doing before the goal and then carry on in the same way, keeping more possession and not turning the game into a battle of transitions.
“We should have controlled the match, pushed forward, found the right combinations and played well. Sometimes it is a question of mentality: you score a goal and you have to keep pushing, because it is clear that the opposition will try to respond. We should therefore have kept the ball much better.”
