A surprising turn of events at Eintracht Frankfurt. The return to winning ways in the Bundesliga (a 1-0 victory over Cologne), one week after the heavy defeat against Leipzig and amid a very complicated start to the season (with 8 points collected from the first 6 matchdays and 11th place in the standings), led to a rather sensational decision at management level in the hours that followed. Through an official statement, the German club's Supervisory Board announced the immediate departure of sporting director Markus Krösche.
What changes for Milan:
A major shake-up at a time of great difficulty for the team, but one that comes just a few months after Milan's ultimately unsuccessful attempt to sign him last summer to make him their new Head of Football. The contract between Krösche and Eintracht was due to expire at the end of the 2027/2028 season, but this early departure inevitably reignites rumours about the future of the 46-year-old executive, with the Rossoneri still worth keeping an eye on as a possible future destination.
During his most recent quick visit to Italy, ahead of and during the Serie A match against Sassuolo, owner Gerry Cardinale reportedly made it known that he intends to resolve the matter in the coming months and bring in a football man to work alongside coach Ruben Amorim, as pointed out via Calcio Mercato.
This is the statement through which Eintracht Frankfurt confirmed their separation from Markus Krösche:
The supervisory board of Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG has granted the board member for sport’s request to step down from his role with immediate effect.
Markus Krösche asked Mathias Beck, chairman of the supervisory board of Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG, to relieve him of his duties as board member for sport with immediate effect.
The supervisory board considered his request at an extraordinary meeting on 18 October 2026 and unanimously agreed to grant it. His contract, which runs until 30 June 2028, will continue under amended terms.
The decision followed positive, open discussions held in a spirit of mutual trust between Markus Krösche and supervisory board chairman Beck in recent weeks about Eintracht Frankfurt’s current sporting situation, the club’s future and their continued working relationship.
Mathias Beck, president of Eintracht Frankfurt and chairman of both the supervisory board and executive committee of Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG, said:
“Markus Krösche played a key role in shaping Eintracht Frankfurt in recent years and made a major contribution to the club’s success on the pitch. Winning the Europa League, participating in the Champions League and developing our squad are just some examples of what has been an extraordinary period. For that, he deserves our heartfelt thanks and recognition.
“We held very good, open and trusting discussions about our future in recent weeks. Eintracht Frankfurt is a club with high expectations and great ambitions. This role demands complete commitment and the ability to deliver from everyone in a position of responsibility at all times. With that in mind, we respected his wish to be relieved of his duties with immediate effect and the supervisory board agreed to his request.
“It was particularly important to us to resolve this matter and communicate the decision publicly ahead of the upcoming general meeting.
“We part ways with great mutual respect and wish Markus all the very best for the future.”
