Stefano Pioli, the former Rossoneri coach, spoke about the Scudetto he won with Milan in 2022 in an interview with Corriere dello Sport:
“What have I retained from Milan’s Scudetto? A lot. It was the culmination of our journey, and above all, it left me with some wonderful relationships with the players. I spoke to them the other day too, as they wished me a happy birthday. It was an experience truly full of emotions and satisfaction, but also of ups and downs. The environment at Milanello is truly unique. Ricky (Massara) and Paolo’s support was fundamental."
“When did I realise we would make it? When we won in Rome against Lazio. The energy we brought onto the pitch, we were unleashing something powerful. At Milanello, we thought it could really be our season.
On the role of Ibrahimovic, Pioli said:
"We started aiming for the title in January, when Zlatan and Kjaer arrived, two completely different leaders. Zlatan was an impactful presence, a leader in terms of character and physicality, who changed the team’s attitude. It was the youngest team to win the Scudetto, so it was not used to working towards that objective. He raised the level of training and attentiveness, and instilled a mentality. Simon was a quiet leader, someone who would go and speak to players individually. A coach’s job is made easier by the presence of players like these; it is easier to win when you have personalities of this kind.”
