Bournemouth’s collapse had caused quite a stir, but Ruben Amorim’s Milan reacted well to Thursday’s 3-0 defeat in the Europa League and immediately returned to winning ways last night against Udinese. Christian Pulisic in the first half and Omari Hutchinson in the second half earned the Rossoneri three golden points, and with this victory, they join Roma in third place in the standings on 18 points, four points behind league leaders Inter and Lazio.
The Corriere della Sera reported this morning that Milan deservedly won despite the many absences, given that Amorim had to do without several important players such as Mario Gila, Diego Moreira and, above all, Adrien Rabiot, the Rossoneri’s main driving force in this first part of the season. However, the Rossoneri responded brilliantly to the emergency, delivering a very good performance and earning three points that allow them to remain close to the teams at the top of the table. The Portuguese coach can only be happy with his players’ reaction: “I am happy and proud, even though I know very well that there is a lot of work to do,” he said after the match.
Gerry Cardinale was also very satisfied with what he saw at the BluEnergy Stadium, having returned to watch his Milan up close after missing several matches. "I am very happy," was the Milan owner’s comment after the match. He also confirmed that he will remain in Milan for the entire week and will be at San Siro both on Wednesday at 18:30 for the midweek fixture against Bologna and on Saturday evening for the derby against Inter.
These are also important days for the Rossoneri club regarding two matters off the pitch: on Thursday, the renderings of the new San Siro will be unveiled, and Cardinale will also try to push things forward to finalise the arrival of Markus Krösche as the new Head of Football. The January transfer market needs to be planned, and Milan will certainly be one of the clubs playing a leading role in it.
