Theo Hernandez received a red card from referee Luca Pairetto at the end of yesterday's match between Fiorentina and Milan.
The expulsion, which came after the final whistle, was allegedly due to excessive protests or possibly offensive remarks directed by the Milan player towards the referee.
Graziano Cesari, former referee, commented live on 'Pressing' to discuss the incident and assess the potential consequences.
"We are unable to speculate because we don't have clear footage of Theo Hernandez's lip movements when the game ended. We saw that Theo Hernandez and Pairetto were quite far apart, and then at some point, they both approached each other, and there was this direct red card for the Milan captain. We don't know if it was an insult to the referee or a protest against his actions."
The former well-known referee continued to talk about Theo's red card:
"Certainly, in such a tense match, it would be good practice for the referee to walk away immediately to avoid these situations, but I can't speculate on how many matches of suspension he might receive. This year, the rule was introduced that only the captain can speak to the referee, but if you insult the referee, that's something entirely different. I guess two matches, but let's not go to 8, 9, or 10 matches, otherwise..."
