Milan-Karetsas, what is the current situation? The Rossoneri, and especially Rúben Amorim, are great admirers of Genk's Greek attacking midfielder Konstantinos Karetsas, who is also a target for Borussia Dortmund.
The German club travelled to Belgium in an attempt to get the deal over the line, although Amorim called the player over the weekend. How will it end? In his latest YouTube video, Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the situation:
"Pay close attention to the name Karetsas. From what I understand, over the weekend Rúben Amorim had a phone call with Karetsas. Amorim spoke directly with the player and presented Milan's project to him. Amorim loves speaking directly with young players; he did it with Mario Gila, and he did the same with Gonçalo Ramos. He likes to establish this kind of contact to understand whether there is a good feeling with the player.
"Milan are still in the race for Karetsas, but everything depends on Borussia Dortmund. Milan are in a different position. At the moment, the club have already completed the major business they wanted to do: signing Mario Gila, a top defender, and Gonçalo Ramos, a top striker. Now they need to make further evaluations. Selling Rafael Leão is the priority. In the meantime, Milan remain in contact regarding Karetsas, who is regarded as an outstanding talent.
"Clearly, Borussia Dortmund are pushing very hard, and that is the reality. This is why Milan are continuing to approach the situation with caution. Dortmund travelled to Genk in recent hours to meet with the Belgian club and try to speed up negotiations. They are going all out to sign Karetsas and consider him an absolute priority, whereas for Milan he represents an opportunity. In other words, if the right conditions arise, Milan remain interested. Obviously, if Borussia Dortmund arrive and complete the deal...
"For Milan, this is more of a market opportunity than an immediate necessity. If the right conditions open up, and if Dortmund fail to finalise the transfer, Milan could step in. At the moment, it is not a direct head-to-head battle. Milan are making moves, but everything depends on what happens with Dortmund. That is the current state of play surrounding Karetsas."
