The gap to the top of the standings is already significant, but Paulo Fonseca has not yet abandoned the idea of fighting for the Scudetto. Ten points behind league leaders Napoli is not a small margin (Milan has a game in hand), but the Portuguese coach believes in his team's comeback. Of course, the Rossoneri can no longer afford mistakes, starting with tonight’s home match at San Siro against Empoli.

Fonseca's Milan, a winning streak in the league is needed too

This was reported this morning by La Gazzetta dello Sport, which explains that if Milan wants to climb back up the standings, they cannot afford any more missteps. In the Champions League, after losing their first two matches against Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen, Milan secured three consecutive victories that have put them in an excellent position. They can now even dream of direct qualification to the Round of 16, avoiding the pitfalls of the playoffs. A similar winning streak is now needed in the league, where the team is coming off two consecutive draws against Cagliari and Juventus.

Fonseca and Leao

To spark Milan’s resurgence, Fonseca is relying heavily on Rafael Leao, who has returned to being the driving force of the team. The Portuguese coach is now satisfied with his compatriot, as he explained yesterday in a press conference:

"Now, yes, it’s better to leave him on the field. We coaches use different strategies: the first one with Rafa didn’t work, but the second one is bearing fruit."

In short, the time spent on the bench has done him good, and a Milan aiming to climb back up the Serie A standings cannot do without its No. 10, as relayed via Milannews.it.
