Paulo Fonseca was unhappy with the way the team played tonight in the victory against Red Star Belgrade. The Portuguese head coach, in fact, had this to say after the final whistle:
"I am not the kind of person who is satisfied with just the result," he told Sky Sport Italia. "Of course, the most important thing is that we won and are in a good position, but that's how I am. There are difficult things to change, and sometimes I get tired of fighting against them. I am not satisfied with the team's performance."
What will you say to the team?
"I don’t want to talk much; I want to analyse, but there are things that are clear to me."
Is it a technical or tactical problem?
"It is not a tactical or technical issue. We come into this decisive match for us with this kind of feeling."
On the lack of consistency, Fonseca said:
"The problem is that our team is like a rollercoaster. Today we are fine; tomorrow, I don’t know. It's like flipping a coin and waiting to see what happens. It's unbelievable."
On the measures to be taken:
"I know I work every day to prepare the team, to do well. I don’t know if everyone in the team can say the same. We had an obligation to show up today and do everything to win the match. And we didn’t."
Fonseca, do you plan to make any decisions if your message doesn’t get through to the team?
"I have to talk to the team about what happened on the pitch. They also need to understand that this cannot happen."
