Sergio Conceicao spoke to the media in a press conference after the 3-1 loss against AS Roma at the Olimpico stadium. Here's what he said:
"I’ve been reflecting since the very first day, I’ve been looking at the numbers since I arrived, from the first match. We were in a quartet of teams that meant Champions League: there were Roma, Napoli, Inter, and us. Was it a good season? Obviously not. And today’s match fully represents what I’ve experienced in these five months: many negative episodes, both small and big. Today there was Gimenez’s sending off. Was it fair? Maybe yes. I reviewed the incident and they told me the red card might have been justified. But I remember that just four days ago, the same VAR did not call the referee on an identical episode involving Matteo Gabbia. And that is strange. The second goal came from a foul — which wasn’t there — on Ricky Sottil, who was clearly fouled. And in the end, even these small details make the difference. I remember some of the most important incidents being purely a matter of interpretation. There were individual mistakes, mistakes by the coach too, of course. It wasn’t an easy season. To answer the question: obviously, a club like Milan cannot stay out of Europe, cannot finish like this in the standings. We all know that. Each of us, on a personal and professional level, must understand what we did well and what we didn’t, and take responsibility."
Failure of the season? Conceicao answered:
"Anyone who works at Milan must understand what they did well and what they didn’t. I will do that. We need to sit down and talk about what Milan will be in the future."
What responsibilities do you believe you have in these results?
"Those of a coach. There are positive things and negative things."
