In recent hours, Milan appears to have made an important, perhaps decisive, acceleration for the bench: the return of Massimiliano Allegri to the Rossoneri is in fact getting closer and closer. He previously managed the team from the summer of 2010 to January 2014. Like Antonio Conte, the Livorno-born coach has always been considered a top choice and the right man to relaunch Milan after the failed season that just ended without qualification for any European competition.

Milan overtaking Napoli for Allegri...

As explained this morning by the latest edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan held positive talks with Allegri throughout the day yesterday, thus overtaking Napoli in the race. Napoli had considered him as a potential replacement for Conte in case of a departure. However, the Apulian coach has not yet made a decision, forcing De Laurentiis to slow down. Milan took advantage of this situation and are now ahead. On the table is a three-year contract worth around 5 million euros per season.

Talks to close the deal...

Contacts between the parties will continue throughout today, in an attempt to reach a final agreement as soon as possible. Milan’s goal is to settle the matter by the weekend, as they have already made their decision and are now working to finalize everything quickly. Allegri is close to returning to Milanello, where he will face the tough task of rebuilding a competitive team together with the new sporting director Igli Tare. The only other option still on the table is Thiago Motta, but even today all attention will be focused on Max because he is the chosen one for the Rossoneri bench.
