On Monday, for the first day of training camp at Milanello, captain Mike Maignan will, of course, be present. Massimiliano Allegri was the main advocate for keeping the French goalkeeper at Milan, after he came dangerously close to joining Chelsea during the first half of June following the disappointment of a failed contract renewal.

From farewell to renewal
Since his arrival—or rather, return—to Milan, Massimiliano Allegri has insisted on retaining Mike Maignan at all costs. Despite some early tension, sporting director Igli Tare managed to fulfill the request of the ex Juventus coach, who will begin this new chapter counting on the experience, professionalism, and leadership of the French goalkeeper.
And who knows—things might change in the relationship between the parties in the coming months. In fact, Il Corriere dello Sport mentioned this morning that both Allegri and Tare will work to soften positions in the coming months to push Maignan toward signing a contract extension, with his current deal set to expire in June 2026.
It will require clarity, but above all credibility, especially after recent months filled with broken promises and underwhelming sporting results. Still, there seems to be a sense of optimism coming from within Casa Milan regarding this matter.
