Journalist Matteo Moretto, in a video published on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, spoke about the Koni De Winter deal between Milan and Genoa:
"Malick Thiaw has already flown to England to undergo his medical tests with Newcastle. Milan immediately set to work to find a replacement for the German. One of the first players to be contacted was Pietro Comuzzo of Fiorentina, who was seen at Via Aldo Rossi as the right profile for the Rossoneri. However, on Sunday the club carried out internal evaluations on the Comuzzo operation, which was deemed a bit too expensive. So, the Rossoneri shifted their focus to the alternative, De Winter.
"Within just a few hours, the deal was closed: a verbal agreement with Genoa for a total of €20 million, including easily achievable bonuses. The player is set to receive a net salary of €1.7 million per season. It should be noted that 15% of this deal will go to Juventus, who had a sell-on clause."
"To finalize the De Winter deal, only the exchange of documents remains, which is expected in the coming hours. Then, the player will be cleared to travel to Milan for his medical tests. In any case, everything is done, De Winter will soon be a new Milan player. Will Milan look for another central defender? As of today, the indications we have are that Milan will not pursue another center-back, and with De Winter, the defensive department will be considered complete."
