Speaking on the sidelines of the celebrations for the 165th anniversary of the local police, the mayor of Milan, Beppe Sala, spoke about the new San Siro stadium. These were his words, as reported by Calcio e Finanza:
“The naming of the new stadium is up to the clubs, and it is clear that a naming sponsorship is not ruled out, as happens in all European and global stadiums. I am expressing a personal thought, not as mayor but as a fan. I have never managed to call it Meazza, with full respect for Meazza, I really like San Siro, but that is linked to my own experience.”
Sala continued:
“Having said that, this is not something on which I, as mayor, should add a single word. There is still work to do, let’s not forget that to reach a notarial deed, work is needed. Have I had recent contacts with Milan and Inter? The offices have, not me. I spoke to the notary to be reassured that we can reach the deed by November 10, and he told me it is possible, though of course work must be done.”
