In France’s starting lineup tonight against Iceland, Christopher Nkunku is expected to start. After returning to the national team and playing 11 minutes against Azerbaijan, the French forward should start in Reykjavik on the left side of the attacking trio behind the main striker, who is likely to be Mateta.

In fact, Christopher Nkunku has not started for France in almost a year. The last time was on November 17, 2024, when Deschamps’ team played Italy at San Siro, winning 3–1 with a brace from Adrien Rabiot. Christopher played as an attacking midfielder behind Thuram and Kolo Muani and stayed on the pitch for the full match. Three hundred and thirty days later, the new AC Milan signing, who joined permanently from Chelsea in the last summer window, will have a major opportunity from the start, also to send a message to Milan and especially to Massimiliano Allegri.

Nkunku with a message to Milan boss Allegri?

The Frenchman needs a strong performance to show he is back in good shape and possibly convince the coach from Livorno to start him on Sunday against Fiorentina. Allegri’s doubts mainly concern the attack, since Christian Pulisic and Santiago Gimenez will only return to Milanello on Thursday after a long intercontinental trip. Pulisic is also not fully fit due to the recurring ankle issue that has troubled him since the summer, as pointed out by those at Milan News. With Rafael Leao also not in top condition, Nkunku might get an important chance to start for Milan on Sunday as well.
