Milan have been linked for weeks with Robert Lewandowski, the 37-year-old Barcelona striker whose contract runs until 2026. Matteo Moretto, in a video on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, summed up the situation around the Polish forward.
“Robert Lewandowski, because of his contract situation, is a hot name in the market. People are talking about him a lot and building many scenarios around him. With the national team he spoke about his future, saying he is relaxed and does not know what he wants to do, he is in no hurry. Lewandowski has no intention of leaving Barcelona in January, there is no need to decide his next club now because he and Barça want to finish this season together. Then at the end of the year they will evaluate. There is a strong chance, a very high percentage, that Lewandowski will not continue at Barcelona. The Spaniards are already looking around, and both sides are starting to plan life beyond the present. Lewandowski will turn 38 next August, he remains one of the active players with the most goals today, he has scored seven in twelve matches between La Liga and the Champions League. Given his age and his contract that expires in 2026, he is not rushing. He wants to choose based mainly on life factors, the decision will lean toward personal and family reasons. The sporting aspect will matter, but it is not yet the moment to decide or to discuss his next club. In January it is almost impossible for him to leave Barcelona, in June the chances are high."
Moretto continued to talk about the Lewandowski - Milan links:
"There is heavy talk about Milan, but beyond ambitions or ideas some directors inside the club might have about Lewandowski, I keep stressing one point, his wages are very high. From a financial point of view, considering costs and age, he is not exactly the profile Milan target. It is true Modric signed for Milan, but Modric made a huge sacrifice. As for Lewandowski, this is not a path I would follow in a Milan context. I am not trying to kill enthusiasm but there is more than one obstacle and not an easy one to overcome. I would not ride this story now or in the coming months.”
