A little less than a year ago, Milan were preparing to buy Santiago Gimenez, the Mexican striker from Feyenoord who was supposed to be the centre forward for the club’s future. Instead, he got stuck in the mud of Milan’s disastrous past season and has not recovered even now under Massimiliano Allegri. What works against him is his poor fit in Max’s system, which has always favoured bigger forwards who operate inside the box.
Gimenez has been out for more than a month. Overall, he has scored only one goal in the Coppa Italia. With the transfer window approaching, talk about a possible departure is increasing. La Gazzetta dello Sport writes:
"Gimenez on the way out. Santi has no space at Milan, he can leave in January."
The subheading says: "The striker is still out with an injury, he should have no chances once he returns. His agent is exploring other options." 'El Bebote' also seems resigned. After insisting on staying in the summer, he now seems ready to move on.
