Massimiliano Allegri, the Rossoneri coach, spoke at the press conference following AC Milan-Genoa 1-1 draw.

A week talking about ruthlessness, then 33 shots and 2.83 xG for a 1-1…

“The match was a test for us to see how we can improve in the process we’re following. When you play against Genoa, who had an excellent game, we had two or three favorable situations. You shouldn’t rush to score, but wait for the right moment. In the second half, we had some chances: on some, their goalkeeper was good; on others, we were inaccurate. Then, after the 1-1, we had four minutes to create chances by bringing the ball into the box. The team was wonderful in trying to win the match," as relayed via Milannews.it.

Was Fofana’s substitution a tactical choice?

“It was a choice because I needed an extra player inside the box. Unfortunately, he slipped on that ball, the same one Bartesaghi later slipped on. That cursed patch of grass.”

Is the team lacking intensity? Allegri commented:

“It’s true that we could have done better in the first half, but there’s always an opponent. We still had to be more patient, even though the opponent, when marking man-to-man, is disruptive. If you don’t unlock the game, you must not concede a goal; it was natural that they would drop off later.”

Three forwards, a solution?

“It can be a solution either from the start or during the game, it depends on the players’ condition.”

Why these first halves? Allegri said:

“The team is physically fine, in fact we finished the match on the rise. But there are also the opponents. First half like other times? It’s a bit a characteristic of this team. We were a little inaccurate and we need to improve. Colombo did very well to score. In football, you try to do everything, but the unexpected happens. Now we have 39 points; the objective remains the Champions League: there will be battles. To reach the goal, we need to accumulate points. Today’s point leaves us a bit disappointed, but also happy; maybe at the end of the season, we’ll look back on this point differently…”
