On the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of Fondazione Milan, AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni spoke to the media at the event. Here are his remarks:
On Berlusconi:
“You may not know this, but tomorrow marks the anniversary of the day Silvio Berlusconi bought Milan. It is an important date. A large percentage of these trophies is owed to him. I used to attend matches, unfortunately not as many as I would have liked, because those were the years I worked at ENI. At ENI, you should know, weekends are spent in Muslim countries. They do not celebrate Sunday as we do, but Friday instead, so I was almost never in Milan on weekends and did not see many matches during that period. However, I followed them closely.”
What do you carry with you from Berlusconi as president?
“He was an extraordinary man. I am pleased to see that, sadly after his death, even his opponents acknowledge the achievements he had, because he had incredible accomplishments in business, remarkable achievements in sport, and major political successes as well. How many people in the world can claim such significant success in three different fields, in a great country like Italy? Italy is a great country. From that point of view, Berlusconi was an exceptional man.”
Do you want to update this trophy cabinet?
“Of course I do. The times have not been easy, but overall it seems to me that we have taken a positive path.”
On the importance of Fondazione Milan, Scaroni commented:
“I really like using Fondazione Milan to leverage the great name of the Club and step in across many areas of social life. Today was an example of what we do. We launch two, three, four important projects each year, and I must say with excellent results. On one hand, they help do good, and on the other, they enhance the reputation of our Club.”
