The results from last weekend’s league matches mathematically secured Genoa’s survival, with the main architect of that achievement being manager Daniele De Rossi, who took over midway through the season from Patrick Vieira and managed to instil his side with his overwhelming personality, as pointed out via Milan News.
The achievement also officially triggered the obligation to buy striker Lorenzo Colombo from Milan: it was the last of three conditions required for the permanent transfer.
During the press conference ahead of the next league match against ACF Fiorentina, Daniele De Rossi spoke specifically about Colombo, praising him highly.
Daniele De Rossi’s comments on Lorenzo Colombo:
"He was decisive in securing our survival and in our growth. He is the symbol of our survival. I like to think that our first point came with that slightly scrappy goal against Fiorentina, which showed what a fighter he is. Then there were other key moments on our road to safety, and not once did I think we wouldn’t stay up, precisely because of his attitude, as well as that of Frendrup and Ostigard... It’s a shame to single out names because everyone fought like warriors."
